Past Events

The Basket Brigade event was inspired by the Anthony Robbins Foundation. Now in its 21st year, our volunteers provide gift baskets filled with food to those who are most in need during the holiday season. The event is solely financed by the generosity of its donors who wish to create positive change in our Bay Area communities

Christmas 2019

Christmas 2017

For our 2017 Basket Brigade event on December 24th, we coordinated with James Dyer and Katee Freeman of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Cruz County to identify 14 families who were most in need. Our volunteers provided each family with a $40 Safeway gift card to purchase food, and a $20 gift card to Ross Stores. This also marked our 9th year working with the Toys for Tots of Santa Cruz County enabling us to provide toys to the children of each family as well.

Christmas 2016

For our 2016 Basket Brigade event on December 24th, we coordinated with James Dyer and Katee Freeman of the Boys and Girls Club of Santa Cruz County to identify 35 families who were most were most in need. Our volunteers provided each family with a basket filled with a 10 lb. Applewood smoked boneless ham, whole-fryer chicken, Martinelli’s apple cider, a 30 lb. bag of fresh fruits and vegetables donated by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County, a $25.00 Ross Stores gift card for warm clothes during the winter season, and an audio program on financial literacy by Robert Kiyosaki. This was our eighth year working with the Santa Cruz County Toys for Tots enabling us to provide toys to the children of each family as well.

Christmas 2015

For our 2015 Basket Briade event on December 19th, we coordinated with the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County to identify 17 families in the Watsonville area that were most in need. Our volunteers provided each family with a basket filled with poultry, and fresh produce. This was our seventh year working with the Santa Cruz County Toys for Tots enabling us to provide toys to the children of each family as well.

Christmas 2014

For our 2014 Basket Brigade event on December 21st, we coordinated with Tamara Cucchiara of Shoreline Work Development Services, a division of Goodwill Industries in Santa Cruz to identify 26 families that were most in need. Our volunteers provided each family with a basket filled with a 10lb. turkey, Martinelli’s apple cider, a 10lb. bag of fresh fruits and vegetables donated by the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County, a $20 Ross Store gift card, and a CD audio program by Robert Kiyosaki focusing on financial literacy. Safeway gift card to purchase food, and a $20 gift card to Ross Stores as well. This also marked our 6th year working with the Toys for Tots of Santa Cruz County enabling us to provide toys to the children of each family as well

Christmas 2013

For our 2013 Basket Brigade event on December 22nd, we coordinated with the Salvation Army of Watsonville, Janus of Santa Cruz, and the Second Harvest Food Bank of Santa Cruz County to identify 25 families that were most in need.
Our volunteers provided each family with a gift basket filled with an 8 lb. spiraled cut ham, Martinelli’s Apple Cider, a 10 lb. bag of fresh fruits and vegetables, a $25.00 Ross gift card for warm clothes during the winter season, and a CD audio program by Robert Kiyosaki focusing on financial literacy. This also marked our 5th year working with the Toys for Tots of Santa Cruz County enabling us to provide toys to the children of each family as well.

Christmas 2012

For our 2012 Basket Brigade, we worked with Janus of Santa Cruz to identify 25 families that were most in need, and delivered food to each of these families located throughout the Santa Cruz County. Each family received a basket filled with a spiraled cut ham, Martinellis Apple Cider, and a 20 lb. bag of fresh fruits and vegetables. Each family also received a $25.00 gift card to Ross for warm clothes during the Winter Season. This was our 4th year working with the Santa Cruz County Toys for Tots enabling us to also provide toys to the children of each family as well.

Christmas 2011

For our 2011 Basket Brigade, we delivered food to 25 families throughout the Santa Cruz County. Each family received a basket filled with tortillas, a spiraled cut ham, Martinellis Apple Cider, and a 20 lb. bag of fresh fruits and vegatbles. Each family received $25.00 gift cards to Ross for warm clothes during the Winter Season. This was our 3rd year working with the Santa Cruz County Toys for Tots enabling us to also provide toys to the children of each family as well. Christmas 2010

For our 2010 Basket Brigade, we delivered food to 50 families throughout the Santa Cruz County on December 22nd with many of the larger families also receiving $25 Ross gift cards. This was also our second year working with the Santa Cruz County Toys for Tots enabling us to provide toys to the children of each family as well.
A card was left in each basket with the following statement: “This comes from someone who cares about you. All that we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else someday.”

Christmas 2009

For our 2009 “Basket Brigade” event, The Charitable Investment Foundation delivered food to 40 families throughout the Santa Cruz County on December 20th. Each family received a basket filled with fresh fruits and vegetables, refried and black beans, tortillas, stuffing, potatoes, a bottle of Martinelli’s apple cider, a spiraled cut ham, and a 15-16 lb. turkey.

A card was left in each basket with the following statement: “This comes from someone who cares about you. All that we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else someday.”

This marked our first year working with the Santa Cruz County Toys for Tots enabling us to provide toys for the children of each family as well. See related article in the Santa Cruz Sentinel covering the event

On December 23rd, 10 more families were selected to receive larger toys and a bag of food donated by the Second Harvest Food Bank. With the help of the Watsonville Fire Department, firefighters from Station's 1 & 2 drove out to four of these 10 homes in two fire engines and hand delivered gifts to each child. In addition, St. Josephs Catholic Church of Capitola put us in touch with a struggling single mother and her 16 year old son and 13 year old daughter. The CIF was able to purchase an X-BOX 360 and video games to make the Christmas holiday a joyful surprise for a family particularly hard hit by the recessionary environment.

Thanksgiving 2004

In November of 2004, we were put in touch with 25 families in need through The Second Harvest Food Bank. Volunteers delivered Thanksgiving food baskets that contained fresh fruits, vegetables, a spiral ham, rolls, stuffing, gravy, and a potentially life-changing book by Anthony Robbins, Notes From A Friend.

Easter 2004

In April of 2004, we were put in touch with those in need through the Hope Project of Santa Cruz County. The 20 families / individuals are disabled, and most are in an assisted living environment. Volunteers delivered food baskets containing fresh fruits, vegetables, poultry, meat, canned goods, and a potentially life-changing book by Anthony Robbins, Notes From A Friend.

Easter 2002

In 2002, the Salinas YMCA put us in contact with 30 families that were most in need during the Easter holiday. Volunteers delivered food baskets containing fresh fruits, vegetables, poultry, chorizo, canned goods, and a potentially life-changing book by Anthony Robbins, Notes From A Friend.
